Diesal services of america was hired to fix a leak on my port 900 man engine approx. 3 months ago. They came to my boat and established that the port bell housing gasket was leaking and needed replacement. I also asked if the starboard engine had a similar issue. They stated there was a leak but not as bad but it would be a good idea to replace that gasket as well. They estimated the job at 11k per engine and one week per engine to complete. Unfortunately the job took 4 weeks and after sea trial and multiple issues it was realized the leaks were worse than when they began. They supposedly fixed all the problems but on the first trip to the bahamas the leaks continued and bolts were falling out of the port engine. My captain refused to drive the boat until a mechanic came to the bahamas and inspected the engines. To make a long story short they have now rebuilt the port engines 4 times the starboard engine twice have charged me 28 k and now there is a significant vibration at cruise and oil leaks continue as well as a transmission leak. Yesterday my mechanic found engine alignment well off of normal alignment and found engine mount bolts loose. I am out 28 k and the boat is in worse shape now then when we began. To add insult to injury they found the leak on the starboard engine was the intercooler gasket not the bell housing gasket and offered to have it fixed if I did not hold them responsible for any other issues.
Response: We did experience problems with this job and in an effort to appease our good customer we corrected those problems, and in addition we performed at no charge the replacement of a leaking head gasket, replacement of leaking oil cooler gaskets, replacement of dipsticks, all of which were outside of the scope of the original customer complaint. When the job was finalized we performed a sea trial at which time there was NO vibration noted by our technician or the Captain. The vibration was brought to our attention after the boat had sailed from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas, to Massachusetts.
