Over 40 Years Experience
The site of Holtz Boatworks has been a marine shipbuilding and boat yard for over 100 years. Originally flat bottomed sailing vessels were built here to carry produce, hay, shingles, and produce to the North with horses and mules used to help get them down the Cedar Swamp Creek to open water where the sails took over. We have uncovered the location of the wooden railway in the cedar trees along our water front. Troth Boat Works built 29' and 32' fishing boats here for a long time along with some custom boat building using Cedar and oak for construction. The yard had its own railway and tracks into the various buildings were here until about the late 1970's. Holtz Boat Works of Ocean City purchased the site and built and maintained the famous Flying Saucer for many years, as well as the Flying Pony used at Chris's Restaurant in Ocean City. After the Holtz family sold the property to George Webster who had the boatyard for a short period of time and sold it to Tom Oakes who owned and operated the Yard until 2004. He's back and helping with the day to day operations and consulting of general boat services and modifications. He's put together a great team completing Fiberglass repairs, Awlgrip paint work, Woodworking, Complete Mechanical services, Soda Stripping of boat bottoms, Storage of boats up to 70' and rental of a select number of boat slips. Our projects rival anything in the Industry today and we are constantly improving on our techniques to stay current with the fast growing Industry.
