Promoting the Good Image and General Well Being of Marine Surveyors Worldwide.
The Society Of Accredited Marine Surveyors® is a membership organization that caters to boaters & the marine industry. SAMS® is an international organization dedicated to enhancing the profession of marine surveying through communication, cooperation & education. Members must abide by a code of ethics & participate in a program of continuing education. AMS® members are surveyors who have accumulated time in the profession & have demonstrated the technical skills necessary for designation as Accredited Marine Surveyors. Surveyor Associates are practicing surveyors who are working toward receiving their AMS® designation. Affiliate members are non-surveying individuals and/or businesses providing products or services to the marine industry.
The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors® has its roots in the International Maritime Technical Institute Conference held in Brunswick, Maine during the latter part of 1986. Most of the participants expressed a desire to belong to a professional society of Marine Surveyors who would have a different purpose and outlook than found in the existing professional organizations of the day. Among the participants were the late Jim Robbins of C.A. Hansen Corporation and the late Fred Lowe, formerly, Instructor of Marine Surveying at the Chapman School of Seamanship, Stuart, Florida.
