About Westlawn

The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology is the oldest school of boat design in the world. In its 85-plus years, the Westlawn Institute has trained more practicing boat designers than any other institution. Teaching entirely by distance learning, Westlawn Institute offers a four-year professional Yacht & Boat Design Program and a one-year Elements of Technical Boat Design Program for marine surveyors and industry professionals. Westlawn also provides six-month continuing-education courses in subjects from fiberglass composites, to systems, to boat interior design.

Westlawn’s Yacht & Boat Design Program is internationally accredited by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). Westlawn is a 501(c)3 non-profit educational public benefit charity, operating in Maine under the regulations of the Maine Department of Education.
